Colic Surgery for Sho (DC ShoProof)

Saturday afternoon, our good buddy Sho had to be rushed to the Equine ICU at A&M due to a serious colic.
It has been determined that the problem lies in his small intestine, and that standard medical interventions are failing. We are left with the decision of whether or not to do surgery, which is well outside our budget.
Due to his age and the complex nature of small intestine equine surgery, the vet gives us a shaky prognosis. That being said, we have seen horses older than Sho thrive after such surgeries. If any of you remember Ami, she lived a long and productive life for nearly 12 years after hers, which happened when she was over 20.
Likewise, Chancy had an even higher risk surgery at the age of 26. He is still going strong, with no further complications.
Sho is 22 years old, and any surgery is risky for him. However, Dr Huddy at A&M says other than his current crisis, he is in excellent physical condition . What we do know is that without surgery, Sho will not survive. More than anything, we want to give him a fighting chance at life. He has been such a huge influence for so many young people learning to ride a become good stewards, we feel he deserves every chance.
Sho has a huge fan club - a great big circle of loving extended family -and we are reaching out to you to see if you can help us give Sho a chance. We have the utmost faith in the staff at Texas A&M Equine Hospital, and we know for a fact that Sho is strong, healthy, and stubborn as can be! And if we were gamblers, we would put our money on Sho fighting for survival -not to mention a chance to eat more carrots!
