<div>Je m'appelle Florence et je mène depuis plusieurs années une enquête familiale qui paraissait presque impossible : retrouver l'identité du père américain de ma mère, Colette.

<div>Dans la région de Soissons, ma grand-mère rencontre un jeune soldat américain. Quelques mois plus tard, le 1er mars 1946, Colette naît à Paris.

<div>Elle grandira sans connaître son père.

<div>Pendant près de 80 ans, cette moitié de son histoire restera un mystère. Lorsque j'ai commencé mes recherches, je n'avais même pas de nom sur lequel m'appuyer.

<div><strong>Puis l'ADN a changé notre histoire.</strong>
</div>
<div>Tests ADN, GEDmatch, généalogie, archives françaises et américaines, documents militaires, groupes Facebook spécialisés… J'ai remonté le fil, indice après indice.
</div>
<div>Et cette enquête est devenue une formidable aventure humaine. Aux États-Unis notamment, des personnes que je ne connaissais pas ont consacré des heures à m'aider, à rechercher des documents et à reconstruire les différentes branches de cette famille.

<div><strong>Nous avons finalement réussi à identifier le père de Colette.</strong>
</div>
<div>Aujourd'hui, nous connaissons son nom, une partie de son parcours militaire, sa famille et plusieurs des lieux où son histoire s'est poursuivie aux États-Unis.

<div>Les recherches nous ont depuis permis de reconstituer une partie de son histoire. Nous avons retrouvé son parcours militaire, sa famille aux États-Unis et les traces de son retour vers l'Amérique après la guerre. Le 5 janvier 1946, alors que Colette allait naître moins de deux mois plus tard, il quittait notamment Le Havre à bord du S.S. John Lawson à destination de New York.

<div>Mais il reste une étape que les archives et l'ADN ne pourront jamais remplacer.

<div>En 2027, nous voulons emmener Colette en Virginie. Elle aura alors 81 ans.

<div>Nous souhaitons faire ce voyage en famille, avec plusieurs générations, pour parcourir les lieux liés à son père et à sa famille américaine, poursuivre les recherches sur place et rencontrer, lorsque cela sera possible, les personnes auxquelles cette enquête nous aura reliés.

<div>Ce voyage n'est donc pas simplement un voyage aux États-Unis.

<div>C'est l'aboutissement d'une quête familiale commencée près de 80 ans plus tôt. Et une façon de transformer un silence transmis pendant plusieurs générations en une histoire que nous pourrons enfin transmettre à notre tour.

<div><strong>Pourquoi 25 000 € ?</strong>

<div>Nous préparons ce voyage pour 2027, sur une durée d'environ 15 jours. Notre souhait est de pouvoir le vivre en famille, avec plusieurs générations réunies autour de Colette.

<div>My name is Florence, and Colette is my mother.

<div>Our story began in France in 1945, when my grandmother met a young American soldier in the Soissons area. A few months later, on March 1, 1946, Colette was born in Paris.

<div>She grew up never knowing her father.
</div>

<div>For almost 80 years, half of her story remained a mystery. When I began searching, I didn't even have a reliable name to start with.

<div>Then DNA changed everything.

<div>Through DNA testing, GEDmatch, genealogy, French and American archives, military records and many hours of research, I slowly began to follow the clues.

<div>But I could never have done it alone.

<div>People in the United States whom I had never met gave their time to help me. They searched records, explored family connections and helped me piece together a story that had been missing from our family for generations.

<div>Eventually,<strong> we identified Colette's father: Vivian Miller</strong>.
</div>

</div>
<div>For the first time in her life, my mother had a name. And a face.
</div>

</div>
<div>We have since discovered more about his military service, his American family and his life in the United States.
</div>

</div>
<div>We also learned that on January 5, 1946, less than two months before Colette was born, he left Le Havre, France, aboard the S.S. John Lawson, bound for New York.

<div>One life was returning to America. Another was about to begin in France.

<div><strong>The next step: Virginia</strong>

<div>We want to make this journey together as a family, across several generations, to visit the places connected to her father and her American family, continue our research and, whenever possible, meet some of the people this extraordinary search has connected us with.

<div>It is the final chapter of a family search that began with a silence almost 80 years ago.
