Cole Armacost's Eagle Scout Project

As a Life Scout in Troop 2 Hastings-on-Hudson, I am beginning my Eagle Scout Service Project to benefit the Admiral Farragut American Legion Post 1195, and the Veterans that use it.

I have raised $3,500 of my $8,000 project which is a gut renovation of the kitchen in the ground floor of the Legion Post. This post has a long history in Hastings on Hudson, and is an anchor in the community of veterans, however, the present-day kitchen is in great need of renovation. It includes an oversized sink, tables (where counters would be more efficient and aesthetically pleasing), visually obtrusive plumbing fixtures, and an out-of-date refrigerator. It is missing necessary appliances, and the space feels cramped.

The Legion rents out its space to secure revenue and to help pay for its running expenses, and I have chosen to do this project so the post's kitchen is more usable for the veterans and will also attract more rental business.

As part of my project I will demolish the current wall facing the main room. From there, I will rebuild and expand the kitchen by approximately 5 ft. Then, I will replace the floor tiles, update the appliances, rearrange the general set-up of the kitchen, install new cabinets, countertops, sinks, and backsplash, and paint the expanded kitchen.

The phases of my project include:
1. Testing for lead paint
2. Gutting kitchen and demolishing wall facing meeting room
3. Re-routing the gas fittings
4. Removing and relocating the boiler
5. Removing floor tiles
6. Building new sheetrock walls in order to expand the size of the kitchen
7. Rewiring 3 electrical outlets
8. Installing tiles
9. Installing cabinets, Corian countertop, sinks, backsplash, etc.
10. Painting
11. Final cleanup of project site

My fellow scouts, adult leaders from my troop, friends, and family members will help me complete this project by volunteering their time and expertise. The electrical and plumbing work needed to complete my project must be done by paid contractors with proper licenses.

I will start my project as soon as my application for the building permit is approved.

Any donation is greatly appreciated, and if I exceed my goal of $4,500 any extra funds will be donated directly to the Post.

Thank you for taking the time to read my proposal, and thanks again for any donations.

Life Scout, Troop 2 Hastings

Hello All,

I’ve completed my Eagle Scout Service Project and I appreciate the support many of you have given in helping me raise the money I needed and through in-kind donations such as the hundreds of hours of painting, screwing nails, putting up sheet-rock, etc.

The renovation took us a total of 465 hours over the course of the past 3 months and I have had a fantastic time doing it. Attached are some before and after photos.

All that being said, I went $556.7 over my $9,654 budget (the GoFundMe fee was $378.61 )… I found out that kitchen’s are super expensive!

I was wondering if y’all could help me get back over. Any additional funds will go to the American Legion.

Thanks again!

-Cole
