Cold Cap for Jaime Pastore

Donation protected
My sister, Jaime Pastore, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer (Invasive Lobular Carcinoma).  It has been three weeks since the necessary double mastectomy and she is recovering well.    I am thrilled to announce (and thank you for all of the prayers) that her pathology report came back 100% clear in lymph nodes post op.  THIS IS GREAT NEWS.

Due to her young age and the large size of the removed tumor, her doctors are recommending chemotherapy and radiation for precautionary measures.  The good news is, she will only require four sessions of chemo over a 12 week period.  The bad news is, even though the quantity of sessions scheduled is limited, these four sessions will cause her to lose all of her hair.  :(  If you have seen Jaime in the last 30 years, you know that her especially long hair is her signature trademark.  Her almost seven year old son, Rocco, literally gasped and cried when they told him about her losing her hair.  :(

Her doctor said she is a great candidate for a chemo cold cap (how it works below) because she only needs the four sessions and she has very thick hair and a lot of it!  Unfortunately, it is expensive.  On top of her already hefty medical costs (beyond what is covered from insurance), the cold cap and dry ice costs are not covered and range around $1,500 for the three months she will need them.  I’ve had a lot of people ask me how they can help Jaime in general.  I have set up a go fund me page to help ease the burden of the cold cap expenses.  If you are looking for a way to help Jaime, please consider donating, no amount is too small.  We really appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers during this continued difficult time.

Our goal for go fund me is $1,500.  Should we surpass that goal, any remaining funds will assist in other related medical costs the Pastore’s have incurred.

How it Works:   Cold Cap Therapy involves applying a specially designed gel cap on to the head to cool the scalp. Cold Cap Therapy is a non-invasive, drug free technique of scalp cooling that can be successful in minimizing hair loss. Caps are changed to maintain the correct optimum temperature for a period of time depending on individual specific treatment.   While wearing cold caps, the blood vessels in the scalp are constricted prohibiting damage to the hair follicles which can be effective in minimizing hair loss.

P.S. For all the people who know us, typing “Jaime” instead of Seester was extremely difficult.  ;)
