I’m reaching out for help. For those of you who don’t know me, let me tell you my story.
5 years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was stage 2 and needed to undergo 20 rounds of chemo after a bilateral mastectomy. It wasn’t easy. I had many complications and had to fight my way through it. I lost my hair; I think that was one of the harder parts of the process.
Now, I have been diagnosed with stage 1A grade 3 ovarian cancer. This was a shock. It was believed that I had a large cyst, surgery proved otherwise. I am now facing chemo again.
Some of you know the back story on why my hair loss was and still is so traumatizing to me. Once again, this is the only thing that is scaring me about the process.
I have been told about an option that can help me avoid this traumatizing side effect. There’s a process called “Cold Caps” that can help you minimize, if not prevent the hair loss chemo causes. I’ve been doing non-stop research on this option, and have even spoken to some people who have used the process and have had success.
The challenge, I’m currently financially struggling. I am divorced and living on my own. I have had loss of income due to medical leave and have the pile of medical bills to pay for. I am getting by, but it is not leaving anything extra to cover something like this. For equipment rental and all supplies needed I’m going to need to come up with about $2,000.
So, I’m reaching out, hoping that there are generous people who would be willing to contribute. I know to some this might seem vain and pointless; I’ve heard the “it’s only hair” line a few times. However, until you do it, you can’t understand. And, once you have been through it and have finally started to feel normal again, it’s a nightmare to be told that you have to start over.
Any contribution would be appreciated. If you can’t afford to contribute, I would also appreciate prayers.
