Colby Thompson's Burn Recovery Fund

Donation protected
Colby Thompson has always loved the outdoors. In his free time, he loves to do everything from fly fishing and wakeboarding to hunting and playing with his two labradors. But while enjoying nature on July 24, 2017, Colby suffered burns to a significant portion of his body.

Colby was driving a side-by-side off-road vehicle with a friend in the Bridger Mountains. The off-road vehicle burst into flames and the fire spread so quickly that Colby couldn’t escape the fire. He was badly burned.

Rescuers airlifted Colby to the hospital. Because of the severity of his injuries, he is being treated at a specialized unit of the University of Utah hospital in Salt Lake City. Doctors have identified extensive 2nd and 3rd degree burns.

During his lengthy treatment in Utah, Colby has already undergone multiple surgeries for his burns. On top of that, he has to have his wounds cleaned multiple times every day, which is an extremely painful process.

At just 24-years-old, Colby has a long road ahead. Doctors expect him to remain in a specialized burn unit for an extended period of time. Even when the early stages of his treatment are complete, doctors expect Colby will need therapy for a very long time.

Because he’s being treated hundreds of miles from his home in Montana; his family has put their life on pause to stay by Colby’s side during this difficult time. Not only are they dealing with mounting medical bills, they’re also paying for weeks-long hotel stays in a city away from their home. They’ve taken pay cuts at work to be able to support Colby during this crucial phase of his treatment.

After treatment in Salt Lake City, Colby and his girlfriend, Katy will face the task of transitioning their lives back home to Belgrade, Montana. Katy will have to take a considerable amount of time away from work to devote to Colby’s therapy.

On top of being stressed about his injuries, Colby’s family is extremely worried about the financial burden this all will bring. Any donations or prayers to help keep them financially afloat would be much appreciated. If you don’t have any spare change, you can help by sharing Colby’s story on social media.
