Cohen's Medical Costs

Cohen is 3 years old (almost four) and lives in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is a happy, outgoing, intelligent boy who loves to read books, watch sports, play with his sisters, and ride his power wheels.

When Cohen was 6 months old he was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. With the help of ongoing shots and oral medication, he has overcome many serious medical complications.  Cohen underwent several hearing tests and eventually received hearing aids for his moderate hearing loss. Throughout the past three years Cohen has worked very hard to advance to crawl, w-sit, speak in sentences, utilize his walker with assistance, and pull himself up. These triumphs are a direct result of his and his parents determination and commitment to speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy on a weekly basis.

Cohen has plateaued as far as his ability to be mobile. His family sees his upcoming SDR surgery as a last option in hopes that he may have the ability to walk one day.  This has been a long journey for Cohen and his family and they have high hopes for the success of this operation. 

On July 30, 2018, Cohen met with Dr. TS Parks at St. Louis Children’s Hospital and received his recommendation to undergo Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) Surgery. This invasive operation will remove the spasticity from his legs, in hopes that he will independently walk in the future. Surgery is scheduled for August 30, 2018 and will require approximately one week of hospital stay in St. Louis post-op. Once returning home, his journey will entail a great amount of additional physical therapy. We know this road will be long and trying, but we are faithful in his future and the motivation he shows daily.
 
This fundraiser is set up to help Cohen's family cover direct medical costs of his upcoming surgery and continuing physical therapy treatments.  This had been an emotional journey for his family. Treatments are quite costly and we would like to ease some of the financial stress on his family. Thank you for any donation you may be willing to provide!
