MODERN COFFEE WINNIPEG

After making it through the first year in business, Modern Coffee is facing a very frightening reality. With the current crisis of the COVID-19 outbreak, Modern Coffee has decided to close its doors to encourage social distancing to do its part in preventing further cases of COVID-19.  

This decision is absolutely necessary and terrifying at the same time. I am deeply concerned as to how Modern Coffee will survive the financial impact of this closure. This is where I completely step out of my comfort zone and ask for help. Financially, Modern Coffee will make it through this month, but after that I will have to get really creative. This might be the only answer to keep the doors of our only North End community cafe open.  

I have been working tirelessly for a couple of years now to create a space for the community.  As a team we have now created jobs in our community, brought together local musicians, aided in social causes and provided a safe space for people where they feel at home, outside of their homes. It breaks my heart that after all of this time with the absence of a cafe in the North End, that our community once again may be without one.

I REFUSE to let this happen. I am asking that as a community that we join together and make sure that this doesn't happen.

Modern Coffee has become a community hub; we need to keep it alive.  So I am asking for your help. Any amount of donation would be greatly appreciated.  It all adds up.  

Modern Coffee is a seed that wants to keep growing within our community. The North End is only beginning to bud and is on its way to really embracing the beauty it holds. I want Modern Coffee’s success to give the confidence to others to be community minded entrepreneurs and open their own brick and mortar businesses here as well. Today’s health crisis cannot be the final chapter for Modern Coffee!

Donated funds will go towards basic operating costs, as no income is being generated through this closure. The target amount of $6,000 will cover the next two months of Modern Coffees fixed expenses. Let's keep our fingers crossed that this will all be over before then.  This number is a loose representation of the funds needed to float Modern Coffee as we are gradually being informed on how the government will be helping out small businesses. Hopefully less will be needed.

If you are unable to donate, we understand. We thank you for your support. Instead we encourage you to please share this message and do your best to shop local.

We encourage everyone to think local when you do go out. The little guys, like Modern Coffee, do not have the surplus funds like the big box stores, which creates financial challenges in times like this.  Though many local businesses have also closed their doors, please look them up as they might be selling online.

I want to do a special shout out to our community hardware store Pollock's Hardware Co-op.  They are currently open to provide for the community. Please support them if you are well enough to go out.
