Texas Storm Damage to ContemplativeResourceCenter

Tax deductible
The Contemplative Resource Center at the West 1077 Guest Ranch

Fundraising goal: $50,000

February 22, 2021

Dear Friends,

Much of the world was witness to the devastating winter storm that blanketed the state of Texas for a long and painful week. The frigid temperatures coupled with the loss of electricity for heat and water incalculably damaged lives and property. The millions of people who lived through this event suffered deeply,

The storm hurt – hurt physically, emotionally, and financially. It hurt individuals and communities, not to mention the livestock and wildlife who perished in great numbers, unused to this kind of cold. And our little corner of Texas was not spared.

General manager Eileen Connelly slogged through the fresh snow everyday to check on the welfare and safety of her horses. One day as she was covering them with blankets, one of the horses went down shivering badly and would not get up. Telling the story, Eileen confided her fear that she might freeze to death herself in the barn before making it back to the lodge. Both horses and Eileen thankfully survived.

I am writing here to make an appeal for the support of our nonprofit organization, the Contemplative Resource Center [CRC] and our home on the West 1077 Guest Ranch in Bandera, Texas, in the beautiful Texas Hill Country.  We are a charitable organization dedicated to providing a variety of education and training resources aimed at nurturing the growth of harmonious, healthy, and sustainable communities. We are here to help others, we are here to be good neighbors. Now we need help too as we emerge from the grip of the storm to begin to repair and rebuild what has been damaged and destroyed.

Unfortunately, our county has not yet been included in the Texas Disaster Zone making us ineligible  for FEMA help.

The Damages

For the week of the storm, our ranch family hunkered down and survived the frigid temperatures with no power, no water, sporadic communication and inaccessible roads, daily fighting for their own survival and for the survival of the horses and other farm animals.

Now we are assessing damages, and they seem immense, and daunting.  Even though all pipes were wrapped for cold weather in advance of the storm, our facilities have suffered massive infrastructural damage. Cisterns are dry, pipes cracked, pumphouse sheds are blown apart.

Although our ranch facilities are unable to operate at present and until recovery is accomplished, we are committed to our mission and to our community. We have full confidence in our local, on the ground team and in the Bandera community to transform the challenges of the present into opportunities for the future.

Please consider offering your support in the form of a donation in any amount. Your generous help is deeply appreciated.

*Please note: The parent 501(c)(3) charity for the Contemplative Resource Center {CRC] in Texas, is the Washington State nonprofit corporation CAUSA <causa.international>.
