Pilgrimage - not very specific, allow me to elaborate. It is a DTS, with a focus on backpacking, and therefore backpackers. There are over 350,000 international backpackers hiking the mountains of New Zealand. Many of the backpackers are young adults from different countries, backgrounds and worldviews, seeking and asking the hard questions about life, about God, and about their futures. I have been given the opportunity to be a light to them and share Christ with them.
Let me tell you a bit about what I'll be doing: The trip is five months long. The first three months are the classroom phase; this is where I would be attending classes on how to be a disciple of Christ, and how to share my faith with people in a natural way. I would be taking that onto the trails with me, to practice what I have been learning.
The remaining two months are called the outreach phase. we would be on a missions trip to a third world country in the area (missions trip location is still to be determined by YWAM) putting what I’ve learned into action. The focus is on backpacking, so we will be reaching out to backpackers; people who are asking questions about life, about who they are, and where they belong. We have the opportunity to be a witness them.
Why go to New Zealand when I can be a light right here in Minnesota? New Zealand has the highest number of international backpackers, who come each year to experience the breathtaking beauty of the country. I see God most clearly through his creation, and I want to share that with others.
First off, I need prayer and lots of it, there are still many obstacles to overcome, and I need wisdom and strength to accomplish his will.
The second thing is that I am lacking financially. Being that I was originally planning on leaving in January, I only have $4,000 of the anticipated $12,000 I will need for this trip. Fortunately YWAM is allowing me to break out the payments over the next 8 weeks. $2,000 more is needed by October 13th and the remaining $6,000 will be needed over the subsequent 6 weeks. Please prayerfully consider if God is calling you to support me on this Missions trip.
