Cody Chambers’ Cancer Fund

Donation protected
On July 5th, we were all in shock when Cody Chambers had a stroke. For someone who had recently completed a Murph in under 50 minutes (CrossFit Workout involving two one-mile runs, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, and 300 squats), blood clots and strokes didn’t add up. Post-stroke, Cody lost his left field of vision which requires a very scarce form of neuro-ophthalmologist  care. He is currently unable to see well enough to read an email or watch a ballgame. Still, as a family, we thought we could manage our way through this until the next hit came, the doctors had identified root cause of the stroke.

On August 6th, Cody was diagnosed with cancer in his GI Tract. Though doctors are still searching for the primary tumor, they’ve designated him stage 4 (due to the known travel to other tissues) and likely inoperable. Currently we’re juggling neuro, cardio, hemo, gastro, radiology, and oncology specialists to navigate treatment. There’s also still ongoing stroke recovery and stomach pains for which we’re in need of physical and occupational therapists that doctors haven’t managed to refer yet.

We’ve recently received a very exciting and fortunate update. Dad has been immediately accepted into MD Anderson in Houston. This facility is where most oncologists in North America contact for the latest in cancer research and is highly sought after. With the news came the harsh reality of cost: getting Cody back and forth to Houston along with hotel and loss of working hours. There are lots of treatment centers in Atlanta, but even his oncologist was shocked at his fortune of acceptance into MD, an opportunity to work with the most nationally renowned specialists and widest access to clinical trials for all types of cancer. The base treatement of this facility is even “in network” although we can’t foresee what clinical trials, often not covered by insurance, he may take part in.

We humbly request donations for Cody’s treatments/trips to this facility in Houston as well as what is likely out-of-pocket costs for his loss of vision treatment and stroke recovery. After speaking with friends who have experienced and managed a cancer treatment struggle, we realize that even the “covered/in-network” costs of this care will be challenged by our insurance provider every step of the way. Anything you can donate will go directly to Cody’s quality of life and provide peace of mind that we can weather both the medical and financial struggle.  Even a $5 donation and prayers is greatly appreciated.

God Bless our family and friends,
