Get Emma to UT's coding boot camp!

Great news guys! I got accepted to the University of Texas at Austin Coding Boot Camp!!! I am absolutely ecstatic. I also have this crushing weight on chest that it was all for waste because I have no financial means to pay $11,500! YIKES! I'm hoping you might help me out?

Basic reasons to attend the program:
- After 24-weeks, I will graduate as a fully-stacked web developer
- I can still work full-time while attending thanks to a flexible schedule
- Least expensive program I found in Austin that offers certification
- Job, financial security, and market growth, per surveyed by Bureau of Labor statistics: Employment estimate and mean wage estimates for this occupation

Program begins March 25, but I must put down a $3000 deposit asap to reserve my place in the program.

I am terribly ashamed to be asking for help, but I can't take out a personal loan because of my astronomical student loan debt and lack of savings after paying all of my medical bills. This program will assist in making my life financially stable and is the career I have been trying to find a way to switch to for years now. This is why I am asking for help. This is something I want with all of my heart, but I simply cannot do alone.

Why do I so passionately want to become a programmer? Fun little secret - I have for years now, ever since I was in college! Every job I've had, I've tried to get involved in their IT projects as much as possible, wishing I could find a way to escape social work. Unfortunately, going into STEM or tech wasn't something that women are often exposed to while growing up and trying to decide their career path. For me, the only ones I knew of were doctor or nurse, and there was too much blood involved for those. God bless. I didn't even know that software engineering existed until I had reached an unacceptably embarrassing age (22), because no one ever considered it might be of interest to me in all of my high school and college counseling sessions.  A simple Google search will show this is not a unique experience for many women out there. I did know I wanted to find a way to help people, so, I chose a degree that gave me the only way I knew how - social work.

The history of computer programming is also part of the history of women.

Being in the cutting-edge work of technology development is a space in which we’ve always belonged. I am driven to do my part to restore balance to that space, and I’m honored to have been allowed to participate from the University of Texas.  It is my goal to be a role model and advocate for women so that they mave have greater access to the beauty and potential that abounds in this field. We must be recognized for our roles in contributing towards one of human's greatest technological achievements.

What has kept me motivated to not give up on this dream? Programming is fun.  It has given us abilities we never thought possible. The best analogy I have to writing code is that it's similar to building a house. Except, with web development, you're not using materials from the physical world, rather, your imagination. The bulding blocks are digital, and you can shape and reshape them into anything you like - talking to loved ones far away, games that fit in your pocket, and an extension of ourselves.  It can be beautiful like art or poetry, and infinitely capable of being put back into some new, surprising way. This is why I'm so personally motivated and I believe that I will be so successful in this incredible occupation.

So, maybe this was lengthy but anyone who know me knows that it is 100% me in speaking my truth.

I realize that my dream is not unique, and I am not altogether special in this world, but any amount you could donate would help change this small little corner for me.

Thank you so much.

Yours truly,
-Em
