Surgery and Vet care for Coco

Asking for help to pay for Coco's surgery
On Sunday, September 24, 2017 around 7pm, we went on our usual walk near the Caltech area. But that night, there were fireworks that the school did not post notice. They never do for some reason. Coco heard the loud booms and bolted from her harness. She didn't look back or respond to my calls. Unfortunately, she is very fast and I could not keep up. I lost sight of her within half a block. I went up one direction thinking she ran towards home but she ended up running towards the busy street. I heard a car impact and her help from a block a way. The driver did stop and so did the car behind them. Two older couples were attending to her and calling for help by the time I found her. One of them drove me back to my car and I drove her to the nearest emergency animal clinic in Pasadena. After the attending vet examined her, he was afraid there would be more injuries that the clinic could not address. So he sent me to a larger 24hr clinic 17 miles away. Coco is not a vocal dog and she was quiet but alert the whole drive.

At this clinic, the technicians were very kind and quickly examined her. With the usual paperwork completed, they were able to take x-rays and saw that she had broken both humerus bones (which are the front upper bones of the leg). The vet also said there may be fluid in her lungs as well as head injury from the trauma. She was breathing on her own when I left her at the clinic that night. The next morning, the vet calls with an update. She said there were pulmonary contusions and may be neurological damage from the head trauma. They placed soft casts on the bi-lateral fractures to stabilize the bone injury.

The Charges
The first night they estimated a cost between $2300 and $6000 just to examine her, x-rays, fluids, sedatives, and to stabilize her breathing.

The next morning they call me with an update and gave me the estimate for surgery: $6000 and $9000.

I am praying the costs will be the low end at around $8000. It's very worrisome that it could cost $15,000.

Surgery is needed to repair her broken legs or she will never walk or run again.

I am hoping she is stable enough to undergo surgery this week.

If you can give $1, $5, $10, $20 or more to help me pay for the surgery, I will be forever grateful for the generosity and kindess of friends. Coco means the world to me. Please help me bring my girl home.
