Coates ~ Saying Thank You

In 2018, I got extremely ill and spent a great deal of the year fighting off a Superior Sagittal Sinus Thrombosis, and two small bleeds in my brain. I spent 2 days on a breathing tube, in the Critical Care Unit and another 4 days on the medicine floor at LHSC recovering. After being able to go home, I ended up with further complications - 2 brain bleeds that hospitalized me again.  I’m now completely physically healthy, but have been diagnosed with PTSD and Anxiety due to the life altering experience.

In 2019, my younger brother, Jacob, was diagnosed with Stage 2 Thyroid Cancer. He spent the majority of the end of the year with multiple doctors appointments, and a surgery where his thyroid and over 100 lymph-nodes were removed from his neck. His recovery process was 4 days in the Hosptial, 2 days at home with drainage tubes in his neck, and another few weeks before he could do everyday activities again. At the end of January, he’ll be having an Iodine drink to ensure there isn’t anymore cancer in his body. He’s still in recovery, and he also now has PTSD and anxiety due to his life altering experience.

Along with both of our illnesses, we each take 5 pills a day, and at least 1 of them each will be for the rest of our lives. 

Since both of us have spent a greater portion of the last two years in hospitals and doctors offices, we’ve decided to raise some money for the LHSC in London that cared for us in our time of need.

I would like to raise $25,000 for the Children Hematology Ward, while Jacob would like to raise $25,000 for the Children Cancer Ward, both at LHSC. They’re both high amounts of money to want to raise; however, the amount of effort this Hosptial has put into saving both of our lives is priceless.

Jacob and I thank everyone in advance for their donations, support, and well-wishes. We hope to be apart of helping a child reach the same recovery we were lucky enough to have.
