Honoring Coach Tom Moriau

On February 3, Ranney School is dedicating Coach Moriau Court in long-deserved honor of Tom Moriau, coach, friend, colleague, mentor, Athletic Director, and Alumni Relations Director.  Please join me in honoring him with a donation that will be presented to him as a gift at the dedication ceremony.

As Athletic Director, Coach Moriau worked tirelessly to develop and bolster the athletic and physical education programs at Ranney. One of the most dedicated members of the Ranney community, he could be found on campus every day from the early hours to the late evenings, cheering on teams, fostering sportsmanship, and championing relationships with families that have continued well beyond the families' Ranney careers.

As Athletic Director, Tom helped to cultivate the scholar-athlete mentality, inspiring the student-life balance that stands at the crux of our school's mission today. Providing players and teams with everything they needed to be competitive, he received the 2005 Prep Conference Coach of the Year Award, and in 2011, led Ranney to enter the Shore Conference, which served as game changer for the school's athletic program. Also serving as Head Coach of the Varsity Girls' Basketball Team since 2001, Coach Moriau celebrated his 400th career win in 2013 and was inducted into Ranney's Panther Athletic Hall of Fame that same year. In 2015, his last year as Athletic Director, he earned recognition from the New Jersey Athletic Directors Association and was named the Shore Conference B-Central Division Coach of the Year.

For the past three years, I have had the pleasure of working really closely with Tom as he led Ranney's Alumni Relations Office, working with six decades of graduates to build the program and reconnect with alumni. During this tenure, he has created the Alumni Leadership Council, expanded the Hall of Fame, grown networking opportunities through social media, and cultivated new connections through Career Day and Young Alumni events. The Alumni community had been especially fortunate to benefit from Tom's ability to connect on a personal level with anyone who went to Ranney during the past three decades.

On a personal note, when I think of the most passionate, proud members of the Ranney faculty and administration, Tom Moriau is one of the first names to come to mind.  Tom has dedicated nearly all of his professional life, and much of his personal life, to the advancement of Ranney, its students, faculty and staff, and its alumni community. Tom will always be an integral part of all of our Ranney lives, and we thank him immensely for his dedication to the Ranney community.

Though many people have come and gone through Ranney's faculty and administration over the years, few have been a constant; Tom is one of those few, treasured members of the Ranney community whose tenure transcended generations of Ranney legacy families.

Please join me in making a gift to Coach Tom to thank him for his dedication.

We also hope you can join us on February 3rd at 11:00am for the Varsity Girls' Basketball Game vs. Roselle Park HS, after which we will dedicate the basketball court and have a reception honoring Coach Tom.
