Coach Bert Claridge - aka "Mr Bert"

January 4th, 2018 marked the very sudden loss of a much-loved person in the Houston ICE SKATING COMMUNITY.
Bert Claridge had a great joy to bring laughter, and wonderful teaching of a beautiful sport & art to scores of people over several decades.
He and his wife Karlene had come to Houston in 1970 with little money in their pockets, and just a dream, like a lot of others who come to Houston – for prosperity and happiness.
He made many friends at the original Galleria Ice Capades (where he started in 1970), Town & Country Ice Haus (late 1970’s), The Woodlands Ice Rink (late 1970’s), Sharpstown Ice Center in the 80’s and 90’s, the Alpine Ice next door to Sharpstown, then Ice Skate USA at Memorial City.
A Facebook page has been set up for any who are interested to attend the funeral viewing, mass and reception, as well as post photos, stories and just talk ! Anyone who loves ice skating should comment.

HONEST USAGE OF FUNDS:
The gratitude cannot be expressed in words.
This was a very sudden event, and money will go primarily to funeral expenses and leftover medical bills. Any excess amounts (with blessings) will go to help his widow Karlene Claridge, with basic needs (food, bills, insurance) for as long as can be sustained, while she races to recover, and tries to plan for 2018.
Bert was the only income-earner in the household, and there is an additional loss of his Social Security.
This could result in Mrs. Claridge being forced to leave a house that she has called "home" since 1979.
We are sure Bert is wishing all his students over the years, the greatest of happiness, from the heavens beyond.
