We adopted Hero and Halo from an amazing litter of puppies back in March of this year. We weren't anticipating adopting a dog so soon, let alone two, but alas, they told us they wanted to stay together and chose us to be their loving parents. The past 4+ months with them have been an absolute joy. They are incredibly well-behaved puppies that ADORE people. It has been my intention to have them certified as therapy dogs so they can continue to spread their love to those in need.
Just this past week, our healthy and energetic Hero became very lethargic and eventually collapsed and couldn't hold himself up. After rushing him to the vet, they discovered he was deathly anemic and needed a blood transfusion. They've run a series of tests and are close to a diagnosis called Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA), which means his own immune system is attacking his red blood cells.
Many dogs that are diagnosed with this condition go on to live long, healthy lives with the support of holistic treatments and supplementation, once they make it through the initial crisis. We are hopeful he will be one of these dogs and live up to his name, Hero.
He is currently in critical condition receiving his second blood transfusion and will need an immunoglobin treatment in addition to being hospitalized for a few more days. These treatments are very costly, but there is no price tag for the love and light he brings into the world.
Please help us give him the best possible chance at experiencing a loving and happy life with us and his sister Halo. We appreciate any and all contributions as they will help us help him.

It reminded me of Hero and Halo and the journey they decided to take together in this life, into our hearts and home. Please share with your friends and remember to love life as much as dogs do.
