Co and Dave’s Medical Fund

Two of our closest friends, Dave and Colleen (Carney) Bernardini, are going through a tough time right now. Anyone that knows Co and Dave, knows they are private people and are not ones to let people know of any struggles they are having. After watching what they have been going through over the last couple of months though, we believe it is time to ask for friends to come to their aid to try and assist in reducing some of their mounting medical bills. Co has had some medical issues over the last few years that has limited her capabilities to walk without assistance. These limitations contributed to her taking a fall and shattering (her Doctor’s description) the femur bone in her right leg. She has already undergone major surgery where she had a steel rod, plate, and multiple screws inserted to stabilize the leg and her hip. The road to recovery will be very long.

All of this also comes on top of Dave being laid off from his job in January of this year and having been on unemployment until August. Dave had found a new job that was to start the beginning of September, but he was unable to take the position because of Co’s accident. Dave and Co have had Dave’s mother, Izzy, living with them for the past few years. They took in Izzy after her numerous medical needs, including Dementia, required her to have constant care and supervision. Co had been the main caretaker for Izzy during the days when Dave was working, but with Co unable to be home during her rehabilitation Dave has had to stay home to care for his Mother full time with limited help. Co has been at a Rehabilitation Center in Westford since having surgery in early August with her discharge date yet to be determined. The outlook right now is that she will come home in a wheelchair and eventually graduate to a walker with additional rehab. As the bills for the surgery, stay in the hospital and the stay in the rehabilitation facility start to come in (the Medical Insurance provided by unemployment has not been a great help), they are struggling to make ends meet. Our goal is to help raise money to help pay some of their escalating debt and lessen the burden for them so they can concentrate on healing and rehab. Any assistance you can give would be great. We appreciate if you could pass this along to any friends and family that also may be willing to help.

Thanks everyone!
