Dear Friends and Family,
I have come to the last stage in my scouting journey. After 12 years of scouting I have finally arrived at the point of working on my Eagle Project. My project consists of work at the Eastern Washington Veterans Cemetery near Medical Lake, WA. Some aspects of the project are the construction of two large cedar arbors, improved drainage including a riverbed drainage ditch, and general beautification for the scattering garden. Other plans include the fabrication of a 28ft powder coated handrail for existing outdoors concrete steps and the creation of signs commemorating US military involvement in various wars for the cemetery lobby. The project is extensive with totals of over 200 man-hours and $6000 including labor. Scouts will perform the labor, however materials especially the handrail ($2500-$3000) and cedar timbers ($80 each) remain very expensive. The veterans’ cemetery cannot provide the necessary funds out of budget and due to the hard times, many local businessmen cannot donate, even if they want to. This leaves me with a significant amount of fundraising to do. I would greatly appreciate any contributions you could make towards the project and the veterans who have given so much. All donations are tax deductable and any funds left over will be left with the veteran’s cemetery to use for future projects. I thank you for your encouragement and assistance throughout my many years of scouting, and look forward to my senior year and what lies beyond.
