Save Reel Foods Fish Market

Donation protected
My name is Marcus Bonilla, I am the chef and owner of Reel Foods formerly located on Capitol Boulevard. You may have wondered when my new location on Vista was opening.

 Well, had some contractor issues…...

There was a turn I did not see coming with the new oyster bar and seafood market. And now I am turning to the community for help to finish a job left undone.

The contractor we hired to build out our new location at Vista Village left us high and dry. To the tune of about $20,000. The contractor did work they were not authorized to do without correct permits on a leased property.

The contractor subsequently got a DUI, let his contractor’s license expire because he had no insurance per the state of Idaho, and did not finish or resolve the job after months of stalling.

As you can imagine, money for this new location we wanted to finish by June 1st of this year is finite, and the damage we faced with incorrect billing and complete incompetence in handling the remodel with no resolution and only a nightmare of legal fees and even more lost time has been crushing.

Nothing like this has ever happened to me or our family. Ever. We are a single seafood market, small business in Boise, and are facing the biggest crisis of our lives.

And after several attempted negotiations and filing of a complaint, the legal fees to pursue this company are bankrupting.

For years I helped all sorts of fundraisers and as many Boise and Idaho non-profits as I could, believing in my duty as a businessman and a member of this great city.

My GoFundMe request is a last resort and I am hoping the goodwill we generated at Reel Foods will return to us in our time of need.

In order to get the market open by December 1st, Reel Foods needs to generate about $120,000.00 more to cover costs for architectural drawings, construction, walk-in cooler, and ice machine. We plan on catering and shucking to generate the additional $120k we need by doing mobile oyster bars, a course dinner at Zee's Rooftop on October 31st, as well as making ourselves available for caterings and any functions (Please contact Chef Marcus ).

Reel Foods has been a part of the Boise area for over 34 years in various locations and under different owners. Our family really feels a responsibility to the community to stay open and continue with the vision of having the largest and freshest variety of seafood in the State of Idaho. We are a veteran, local, and family owned business. This is our family's first business and believe in what we are doing and are very determined to open the market. All of us here at Reel Foods would humbly like to ask for your help to keep our vision of Reel Foods alive.

This has been very hard for me to ask for help.  I’ve given with the expectation of receiving nothing in return.

Regardless of whether we can open the market or not, we are grateful for all of the customers and great experiences we had at the 611 Capitol location.

In the meantime, as we regroup, please check our Facebook ( https://www.facebook.com/reelfoods ) and our Reel Foods website ( http://reelfoodsfish.com/ ) for more information over the next few weeks for dinners, mobile oyster cart dates and locations, and other exciting things that Reel Foods will be doing in the community until we open........

December 1st, fingers crossed.
