Johnson Family House Fire Fund

On February 3, 2018, the Johnson family’s house caught fire from a bathroom exhaust fan. My dear friend, Kelly Johnson, and her family lost everything in the devastating fire at their home in Aurora, IL. Thankfully, Kelly, her spouse Jim, their 12-year-old daughter Katie, and the family dog Buffy and Guinea pig Caramel were home and got out in time escaping injury. However, they lost virtually all of their possessions, not just due to the fire, but smoke and water damage. Their house was deemed uninhabitable.

Sadly, there is even more bad news. Due to an oversight when changing insurance companies, the family discovered their mortgage company did not have coverage on the home or belongings, and the property insurance policy they did have was not sufficient to cover replacing all their belongings and doing the repairs needed. Thus, the family needs to replace the majority of their personal effects and household goods, as well as all their appliances, and gut and remodel the damaged areas of the home, with very little insurance reimbursement. Fortunately, they have been able to secure temporary housing with family members.
