Helping Emily
We have set up this gfm account for our good friend, Emily, who has been severely affected by the global pandemic. As many of you are aware, this pandemic has hit the mental health community particularly hard. In spite of this, we have seen no real increase to funding in this area.
In more stable times Emily runs two businesses; She teaches CPR and she also runs a cat boarding service. Emily has always been self- sufficient and fiercely independent. Because of the pandemic she has been forced to close both businesses temporarily. This has caused great financial hardship. While the temporary CERB benefit did help, it barely covered her rent. All of this, on top of an already uncertain economic time as well as the real fear of contracting COVID 19, has left Emily’s mental health in jeopardy.
After looking into some available inpatient mental health treatment programs, Emily reached out to Homewood in Guelph. This is an excellent inpatient program that could make the difference between life and death for our friend. It is also a very expensive program that is not covered by our Ontario healthcare. Emily has been accepted into this program and it is our sincere hope that, with your help, we can make sure she gets the chance to receive the treatment that she truly needs to survive and thrive. We are happy that her good friend Tiffany Giblin will be helping with the arrangements of her care.
One last thing… Emily has always been a caring, giving, selfless person who never hesitates to go that extra mile for others. When the country went into lockdown at the start of the pandemic, Emily was in her car driving all over Toronto and the GTA delivering donations of cat food to vulnerable pet owners who could no longer afford to feed their cats due to COVID. For days on end she would load up her car and spend countless hours driving to get the cat food to anybody who needed it. Now the tables are turned and we ask you to do the same for her.
Thank you.
