Well, as my mother once said, "things are never so bad they cant get worse". Last night Erika and I returned home to our property to find we had been robbed blind. Practically cleaned out.
They literally ripped down my hurricane gate (and stole it as well) and then proceeded to take most of our paltry worldly possessions that we had worked and scrimped for over the last 6 months
The things they took ranged from valueless to anyone, like our camp chairs and tea kettle, to almost impossible to replace, like our massage chair that was integral to our business plan to set up a booth at our numerous local farmers markets. Ungodly expensive to replace, especially when you add in shipping to the islands. It's so painful to walk about the place and bit by bit discover the totality of the violation and things taken as well as the ugly ruts in our land where they drove a truck in and loaded up. We were gone a day and half visiting friends and working, and neighbours say it must have happened yesterday afternoon, since our gate was still there till then. They of course saw no one.
The list so far is; Front gate, propane stove, spare propane cannisters, three camp chairs, garden sprayer, Erika's new bike (fuck), Massage chair ( ouch) portable speakers, toiletries bags, 2 cooler bags, Machete, hedge trimmer, our bath towel!, Erika's massage school books, our plastic bin and our recycling, if you can believe they took that. Luckily our computers and generator and power tools all reside in my van and were with us, but still, this is a major hit to folks like us who are just squeaking by. We cant replace the bigger ones at all.
My main priority is to get the gate replaced (and welded on solidly this time) to prevent further potential theft, since as it is we are basically wide open for anyone to walk in. Im loathe to ask for assistance ever of friends, but im in no kind of financial shape to replace things right now and I need to make sure my property and my fiance are secure.
