Cloud Six's Debut Album

Donation protected
We are very excited to announce that this month we will be going into the studio to record our debut album!

We’re doing something rather unique for this album that really reflects the democratic nature of this band, all six members of the band have contributed an original song. This makes for a wide variety of styles from cinematic mood pieces to electronica-inspired funk, all tied together by jazz and our collective vision for this music.

We set up this Go Fund Me campaign to cover the costs of creating the album by allowing you to pre-order the finished product, band merchandise and other rewards for going above and beyond to support this music.

Recording an album is a monumental step in a band’s development, a chance to bring our vision into reality and release an artistic statement that we can really be proud of, we appreciate any contributions you are willing to make to helping us realize our goal. Once complete this album will also help us reach new audiences and play bigger shows in town and on tour.

Our music is rooted as much in hip hop, funk, and electronic music as it is in jazz. Most of those contemporary genres evolved from or directly sampled jazz music, so one of our goals is to sort of flip the script, bring those new elements back to the live band setting with the added spark of creativity that comes from a real rhythm section and live improvisation.

Cloud Six started as a groove jazz band called The Sextet led by bassist and composer Robert Castillo. We recorded his debut album “In a Natural State” in 2016, at The Map Room Studios in Portland. It did well, getting regular play on our local jazz radio station KMHD and was featured as one of their top ten picks of 2016. When Robert moved back to his hometown of Kansas City, we continued to play, working instead on original music from several band members.

After almost two years of writing material and performing all over Oregon we have developed a sound and vision, we are finally ready to lay it down in the studio.

For this album we will be returning to The Map Room, and working again with lead producer Nate Stoll who worked with us on The Sextet album and Dwayne Dungee, former engineer for George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic.

Our goal is $3,800 we are fortunate to be working with many friends, whose generosity allowed us to keep costs so low. Here’s a breakdown of the expenses:

*UPDATE*:  We've  subtracked physical cash made at recent fundraisers from the Campaign Goal  on here, thanks to everyone who contributed in person too!

$1200 for three days at The Map Room with Nate as our producer

$1000 to print our initial run of 500 CD's

$700 for mastering with local legend Dana White

$200 for album art and graphic design by Carisa Lolmaugh

$300 for an in-studio music video with videographer Todd Gee

$100 to license the songs and bring them to all the major streaming services

$300 to cover the 7% Go Fund Me surcharge

We have all evolved so much as musicians and people from playing together and now we are refining the common themes that exist between all of our different styles. This is a truly unique collaborative record, and a chance to introduce ourselves to you and the rest of the world, with your support we can make something beautiful, powerful and soulful. On behalf of all of us

THANK YOU!!!
