Close the gap to get my sister mobile

Donation protected
Marian, my sister suffers from degenerative osteo-arthritis in her knees and hips making it incredibly difficult to perform even the simplest of tasks.  Even something as simple as stepping outside for fresh air can be an  almost insurmountable challenge.  Things most of us take for granted like going shopping can leave her in excruciating pain for days.

Surgery is not an option due to other medical conditions and Marian has no means of transport and is on a disability pension which is barely enough to live on.

I'm hoping to raise enough money to help Marian get a mobility scooter which would give her some much needed freedom. Freedom to go shopping, access public transport, see friends and generally not be stuck in her house all the time.

The government has approved a subsidy of $4,000 which is certainly welcomed however it does leave a gap of $1,200 plus $300 for compulsory corrective lenses, money Marian simply does not have nor has any reasonable prospect of getting.  While the subsidy is secured, without the balance it cannot be accessed.

If you can spare even a few dollars or maybe just share it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

UPDATE:  Please see below for a personal message from Marian...

Hi all!

First up, I want to say thank you to everyone who's donated so far. I know that at this time of year, finances are tight for everyone, so I really appreciate that you've been able to give anything.

I also wanted to share with people how having this scooter will change my life, by sharing a little list of things I plan to do when I'm finally able to afford it:

* Go out to the local shops and do some grocery shopping entirely on my own, instead of having to order online and pay for delivery, or rely on others to pick it up.

* There's a local cafe I'd love to be able to check out. My plan is to go up there, order a coffee, and sit at one of the outside tables.

* Generally ride around the neighbourhood every day, instead of being mostly housebound.

* Maybe even brave public transport when the new railway station opens up, and take a trip into the city, which I haven't done forever.

Again, thanks for donating, and I really hope we can continue to climb towards the goal!

Marian.
