Clint's Recovery (Trying To Go Home)

Donation protected
Clint was diagnosed with a very rare case of Acute Flaccid Myelitis, and in hospital, since two days before his 6th birthday; May 10, 2019. Since the onset of this illness he was almost completely paralyzed from the neck down, but now he is able to balance his head up off of his wheelchair headrest, is gaining tremendous strength in his legs and has started “sprinting” to wean off of the ventilator. His right arm is half awake and is functioning at about 45%. His left arm still has not woken up yet. Clint recently had his NG feeding tube removed because he can now eat without limitation! He is still in his wheelchair, but definitely getting stronger! These are wonderful milestones that we are so very grateful he’s made!! :) Our goals now are to get him home, continue therapy, get him walking again and off of the vent. He has done wonderful with the rigorous physical therapy, and Clint has met the requirements to be discharged home! Though he has met these milestones, insurance has refused to continue paying for his therapy because it is such a long, long road ahead of us and he is not progressing as quickly as they would like to see him progress. Early intervention and constant therapy is his only chance to fully recover! We want to give him the best chance that any child should have so we are not giving up! We do our own therapy with him every day, but it’s the specialists and machines that are really going to make the big impact and give him a fighting chance! We can’t wait for him to come home and be able to participate in therapy that will help him walk again and breathe on his own!! :) Since he’s been ill, he has been living in the hospital, while mom and sis stay at the Ronald McDonald House to be close to him. We are away from his siblings and his father every single day and want so badly to be home again and back to our normal lives. The obstacles we now face for this to be over are: 1) The home we are occupying does not meet the requirements needed for Clint to live there with his vent and wheelchair, so he can not be released until a suitable home is provided. 2) The physical therapy is no longer covered in the extensive aspect that was granting him so much improvement. Overall, we don’t have the finances available to get him the proper home and continuous therapy. Clint’s dad is a Veteran of the Marines and has been on a mission to get his benefits to help Clint, while continuously working to keep our heads above water. Mom is constantly fighting tooth and nail with SS and IHSS to get the benefits that Clint deserves and needs in order to be with his family and get better. We are trying desperately to find a place that meets the requirements and is affordable at the same time. We’re asking for any support and prayers! We want so desperately to be back home with our family and be done with this chapter of separation. We know that all things will work out in due time and we’re just praying that our time is right around the corner. God knows what we’ve been through trying to keep it together. Thank you for kindness, support and prayers!! God bless! :)
