Climbing Everest and Raising Awareness

Donation protected
Hello everyone :),

My name is Hong (25 y/o) and I have the dream to summit Mount Everest as the youngest German female person.
My main focus while summiting Everest is to raise awareness for climate change, the preservation of our planet’s beauty and to help women and children to better education. I experienced in the past years of travels that nature’s beauty is collateral, all connected and intertwined. I was very privileged and had the chance to travel around the world as a backpacker for 7 years and witness all the beauty with my own eyes. From the desert of Jordan or Oman to my work in Antarctica.

There are two things which are very deeply important to me, which I want to raise awareness for on my trip to the summit and afterwards:

 1. I want to help organizations like Komera in Africa or Ruhija Little Angels in Uganda with educational support and sport activities for the students and children. I deeply believe good education is one of the biggest powers and key to change this world to a better place. One day I wish to establish my own foundation to help talented students with scholarships or the ones who have exceptional talents in athletic sports to support them towards a brighter future. With my trip to Mount Everest I want to encourage girls and women all around the world to follow their dreams because it’s worth fighting for your dreams and hopes, this is what keeps us going in life. Even if it seems difficult and even if nobody believes in your dreams, everyone has the right to have self-confidence and faith in themselves.
Education and girls power can and will make a huge change in Africa and anywhere in the world. A world with more tolerance and compassion, with less hatred and fear of the unknown.

 2. Since I have been traveling, talking and living with locals on all different continents around the world I can see and feel the impact of climate change happening around us. Just to give you a few samples:

·         Visiting Iceland and talking to locals in 2020 validated my fears of the impact of our climate change crisis: Glaciers (biggest one in Europe) have lost about seven percent of their surface, also it is proven by millennium studies.

·         At my home in Kenya people outside of the capital face severe drought and don't have access to water. And water is life! I got to feel how it is not to have access to water (or at least very limited access) when I stayed in Ethiopia in 2019. It is happening all around the world, and for me it is clear the most vulnerable ones amongst us will suffer the most in this climate crisis. Climate change is impacting widely and severely in Africa. Already this year many people in the sub Saharan countries have less access to food and water. After my trip I want to plant trees whether in Africa or/and in Taiwan with local communities.

·         I have seen the change within 4 years of work in Antarctica and I have been in Antarctica when on February 6, 2020, the highest ever recorded for Antarctica was reached at 18,3 celcius (64.9 degrees of Fahrenheit) at the Argentine Esperanza Base (hotter than in some parts of the US at the same time). It breaks my heart to know that future generations might not be able to witness the same beauty of Antarctica or other places around the world like I had.

This is not only to achieve one of my biggest dreams but at the same time to raise awareness on how to help vulnerable women and youth to get better access to education. How to build a better and more sustainable future for them. And how to focus to preserve the beauty of our nature. Because it is what it is: Nature is not depending on us. But we are depending on nature.

I also know that I can't achieve this goal by myself; I need people's help who believe in the same vision of making a change in this world to a better place. We all can contribute something to it, even just being kind to our fellow men in our daily lives, and why not make a compliment to a stranger today?

My dreams are fueled by my hopes, and hope and faith is where I will move forward to. Because without hopes and dreams, changes can not be made (think about  "I Have A Dream" speech by  Marthin Luther King Jr.) Thank you for supporting me and my wish to change this world in my own possible way. Everything which I don't use for Mount Everest (expedition fees, gears and flight tickets) I want to share transparently with all of you. Because the rest shall go to different organizations to support women’s and children’s education with a scholarship  or tuitions and different environmental issues and solutions.
