Climb For Mental Health

Hello World!!

I'm Sanford McMurray a physical and mental health coach, educator and speaker.

Every year I do a fitness challenge for my birthday, to raise money and awareness for a cause. Two years ago it was for Beyond Blue, last years it was to send a cheerleading team to the United States Of America, so they could compete.

As a person who has struggled with depression and suicidal tendency in the past, and now a mental health support worker, advocate and life coach, mental health issues are very personnel and important to me. My challenge this year is to walk up and down 164 stairs 100 times, that’s 16,400 times in one day, to bring awareness and healing to mental health issues.

I want to raise money for an event call “Social Mental Health Arts Resilience Training Circus” or S.M.A.R.T Circus for short. My team and I would run mental health short courses, Circus skills workshops and finish the whole event with a mental health themed performances for the public. The goal is to raise $30,000 to have the mental health courses, run circus workshops in the December followed by a performance guided by me but built, run and performed by the youth that participate in the whole S.M.A.R.T Circus Program.

Here are a few static’s for you, according Beyond Blue, Black Dog Institute and Mission Australia.

At least 20% of Australian adults are affected by mental illness every year. Number one is anxiety disorder followed by depression.
1 in 5 Australians ages 4 to 17 experience depression disorder, that’s 112,000.
1 in 4 Australians ages 4 to 17 experience anxiety disorder, that’s 278,000.
Every year 1 in 4 students are affected by bullying. According to an ABC report, even the highest ranking school captain just days away from her 18 birthday was not immune to the bullying that lead to her suicide.
Every year around 750 teens between ages of 13 and 17 commit suicide because of bullying.

Suicide in the leading cause of death for Australians between the ages of 15 to 44.

The consequences of not addressing mental health conditions lead to continued lies, stigmatisation and isolation. Mental health conditions if not recognises and treated in youth will extend to adulthood, leading to more broken families and relationships, more addictions, more domestic violence and even more suicide as a way to escape the high rates of stress, isolation and pain of life.

Help me reach my goal by donating $5, $10 and up.

The stair climb will be held Sunday December 6 2020.

++Starts at 4 am ++

++The goal time to finish is 11am ++

++New Market, Brisbane, Queensland++

Help me to help by showing up early, bring your voices and feet if you want to walk a bit with me. I would love any support you could offer to help me reach my goal of $30,000 for mental health awareness and healing.

The first 20 donation receive a free S.M.A.R.T Circus T-Shirt.

I would like to say thank you in advance from the bottom of my heart to my team and you for contributing to this great life changing fundraiser.

I wish you all Love, Peace and true Happiness,

Sanford McMurray
