----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On november 27th a leak was discovered in an oil pipe above the Shiripuno river, Eastern Ecuadorian Amazon, leading to a large oil spill that has led straight into the heart of the Yasuni national park, a region known as one of the most biodiverse places on earth and also home to several almost completely isolated indigenous tribes.

The responsible oil corporation neglected the problem and failed to solve the leak and clean the oil in time. Which has led the oil spill to grow out to a huge environmental disaster that has recently also reached the direct waters of indigenous tribes that use these to drink, bathe and clean. With the waters now contaminated their health, and that of the millions of species living in the region, becomes a serious concern.

In this part of the Amazon, where the leak occurred, there are almost no NGO's active, because it is a very remote area with no infrastructure. Which is why this disaster barely gets any attention in (worldwide) media. Nevertheless, the problem is severe and needs to be tackled urgently.

One of the few NGOs  active in these areas is the Dutch Foundation Save the Native Forest (STNF) and its Ecuadorian sister foundation Conservemos Nuestros Bosques Nativos (CNBN). They have people on the ground working with the indigenous communities to fight against the oil spill and do everything in their power to urge the oil corporation to take responsibility and clean the spill by setting up meetings, protests, inspections and taking judicial steps.

All these actions and processes require funds, which the organisations and locals are currently paying out of their own pockets. Since these organisations are small and the local families are often penniless they have very limited funds which is why we need your support.

We ask for your help in our fight against the oil spill, any amount will have a great impact and allows us to save lives.

Indigenous communities, their lives and their futures as well as that of the millions of animals, insects and plants depend on our efforts.
