CLEANER WATERWAYS ONE PADDLE STROKE AT A TIME

Hello to everyone coming across this page. My name is Lynn Brotherston with Stroke your ECO/Paddle for the Planet. Over the winter of 2021 I started a business selling merchandise to help offset costs for tools, to get out into NJ'S waterways to get them in tip top shape. Since March Stroke your ECO has managed to set up over 29 events with so many wonderful volunteers, hitting numerous lakes, rivers, inlets and even doing beach cleanups right here at the Jersey Shore, where we have so many tourists enjoying our waterways. The volunteers have given up their Saturday or Sunday mornings to pull in anything from garbage, tires, old bicycles, furniture and the list goes on.

Not only did I realize how much garbage and plastic is in our waterways, but I also realized an LLC was not going to help me accomplish my goals of fighting this gigantic pollution problem. Although I am humbled by the many who have joined this cause, there are needs to have way more effort put in and that's why I need to go Non profit with this. It is so bad out there, that it's creating so many problems. Here is a list of what problems we currently face and if we don't take action now we will face for years to come.

 

Littering Is Accountable For The Death Of Millions Of Animals, due to not being able to distinguish between trash and food.

 

We in turn then eat fish. Did you know that 30% of fish are contaminated with microplastics?

 

All rivers, lakes, inlets, etc. eventually run into the ocean.

 

The ocean currently has 5 significantly large garbage patches. The largest one is the great pacific garbage patch located in between California and Hawaii and is the size of Texas.

 

There are over 5.25 trillion tons of plastic in our Ocean

 

And an additional 8.3 million tons of macroplastics and microplastics enter our marine environments every year, with estimates to double by 2025.

Stroke your ECO needs the donations for lawyers fees to convert the LLC to a Non profit and once that is done any and all donations will be tax deductible. 

 

Stroke your ECO can't save the entire planet, but with YOUR HELP of becoming non profit, Stroke your ECO can become more hands on with the state and local levels, perhaps get funding so we can increase the message on littering, have the proper tools for our events and do the best we can to save the planet one paddle stroke at a time!
