Clean water for Vota village, Kenya
Donation protected
Currently, in the village of Vota near Ndalani in Kenya villagers are having to access water via long trips to a nearby river which is frequently polluted, and the unclean water causes disease. Water is brought from the river in plastic containers by donkey, cart or carried by hand. Villagers have plans to install a Hydram water system that would allow water to be pumped from the river, filtered and accessed much more easily and safely. This is an alternative to drilling and would allow the water to be cleaned and stored in tanks for household use.
The costs involved in the project include:
- Purchasing of the water tanks
- Purchasing pipes and taps
- Purchasing stands for the water tanks
- Purchasing a water purifying machine
- Labour & installation
The total cost of the project is approximately £8,750 or US$11,000. The villagers have been saving themselves for this work but currently are a long way from their target. Peter Muoki is a friend we met while travelling in Southern Africa and is from this village and the project to provide clean water for his fellow villagers is his passion.
This page has been set up to help raise money to contribute to this project which is being overseen locally by Peter. Any funds raised would be transferred to him to distribute and use locally. We would be very grateful for any contributions to help them towards the village towards their goal!
Thank you! :)
