MAJI SAFI (CLEAN WATER) FOR EVERYONE
Take a moment and consider all the things you use water for. Cooking, cleaning, laundry, doing dishes, showering, brushing teeth, washing hands and most importantly drinking. Then imagine not having water available - how will you solve all these tasks now? You have to make due with the dirty rivers, let the dishes be dirty, postpone the laundry and cleaning and worst of all you will be forced to drink unhealthy and unclean water. This is unfortunately the reality in the majority of the African countries as well as Tanzania, where we are looking to change this.
We are Junior Jackson (Tanzanian) and Cathrine Grande (Danish) and together we run the hostel the White House of Tanzania just outside of the big city Arusha. Our hostel is located in the area called Daraja Mbili, which is an area full of love and happiness. Unfortunately it is often lacking water.

Our area gets its water supply from the suppliers in town, but more often than not the water simply disappears for days at the time without any further notice. And when the life here is tough and our loving neighbors are struggling to pay their water bill in time, they will also be cut off - for days at the time. Our hostel is lucky to have a water tank which prepare and helps us from these drought days, but the rest of our area isn’t having this luxury. From time to time we will call a truck with clean water and give out to the neighborhood, but this is an expensive and not sustainable solution to the problem.

Through our area runs the Themi river, where most of the women go to do their laundry and fetch their drinking water from. However, this river is far from clean as many factories let out their waste in it and it is often the cause of infectious diseases such as tyfoid. During our rainy season, the river will be overflowing with muddy water from the mountains and is of absolutely no use at all.

All these reasons are why we want to make a CHANGE. We are raising money to provide free and clean water for our neighborhood.
We have secured a piece of land, where we plan to dig to reach the groundwater. We want to install a pump, so everyone can have acces to clean and free water at any time! But this is expensive. As we are lucky to be running a business, we are donating a part of what we earn from each staying guest to this cause, but as water is needed now we are looking to speed up the process.

All the funds donated to this fundraising will go strictly to the work and the digging itself. To initiate the work, we will need workers to come to the plot and estimate and meassure the distance to the water. Hereafter, the digging itself will begin. And finally, the pump will be installed and the whole area will benefit from this. As water is needes ASAP, we will begin the initiating steps as soon as we reach the funds for it, so the work can be finished fast. The company incharge of the digging have given us a rough number of 3000 USD for the whole work, which we have converted into 20.000 Danish krones, as it is Cathrine's bankaccount, we have used for this project. And if we are lucky enough to have any funds left after the digging, we will use them for other beneficial purposes in the area - next on our list is to introduce garbage containers to help reduce the ammount of trash.
