Clean Water for ACH Ghana

Donation protected

A few months ago, the water bill for Achiase Children's Home in Ghana was too high (about $800) and they were unable to pay it. The water has been shut off and since then they have been only using the rain water, when there is some available, or fetching water from a well about .2 miles away.
Fetching water at the well is an interesting experience. As you approach the well, you must take off your shoes and leave them about 100 yards away (it is considered taboo to bring them to the well) and after walking down the remaining rocky path you then wade through a stream to reach the well located within). If you are bringing one of the large metal buckets to fill then they also must be left back on the path and filled with trips back and forth with other buckets. The path itself is not easy with obstacles along the way. There is also a busy road that must be crossed to go to the well and it isn't as easy checking both ways for the fast moving cars as you have a large bucket of water on your head.
Each of the children must fetch two buckets of the water in the morning and afternoon which is then used for bathing, cooking, drinking, flushing toilets, and washing dishes. They must fetch their own water to wash their clothes as well which many just bring their wash down by the well so they don't have to cart the water as far.
The problem with the well water is that it really is not the cleanest and should not be used for drinking. However the children do not have another option.
After speaking with Mr. Sam and Mama Sarah, we would like to request help in securing a new source of water for the home. A clean source that would not be costing the home hundreds of dollars each month. We would like to hire a drill to come and dig a deep well right by the home that would provide clean water for the home. They already have a pump that they could use and with it they could even set it up so that the water would be able to flow through the pipes at the home. After the initial cost of setting it up, this water would be free for them other than the slight increase in the electric bill caused by the use of the pump. It would be so great if the home could have a clean source of water again that isn't costing more than they could afford. Please help me in making this possible. Thanks!
