Alviso Community Park improvements

Hello everyone, my name is Marcos Espinoza and I am a resident of the Alviso community. I have lived here since 2010 and have long awaited a new community park. My family has been here for over 50 years and through out those years have helped the community. One of the most notable events was when the community of Alviso came together and built the Alviso Clinic in 1967. One year before Alviso was annexed to San Jose. Growing up as a kid in Alviso going to the park wasn’t very popular. Although there are some amenities like a baseball field, 2 kid parks and the basketball courts at George Mayne, the community park is hardly maintained. There are many safety hazards that one needs to look out for. The open grass field, usually used by a local youth soccer team, is full of holes. The sidewalk adjacent to the park on Wilson way has been covered with dirt and rocks for over ten years. The open fields fenced in by old metal wire fence is the area of the new Alviso park. The land was donated to the community and funds were given for the park. The Alviso Park Master Plan has been approved and planned to be built over 20 years ago. It is unfortunate that this land for public use just seats like a wasteland. After many complaints to the city to start the project they have responded by saying there is a lack of funding to build the park. After many broken promises the community is starting to get together and take actions into their own hands. With the motto of asking not what the community can do for us but what can we do for our community, community members have started to clean the park and make it usable. We are going to beautify the park by trimming low hanging trees limbs, cut weeds, fill holes, add landscaping, and make the park useable and an enjoyable place to spend time at. We have began cleaning the vacant dirt lots on Grand boulevard and With your help we plan to give the Alviso park the love and care that it so desperately needs.
