Claymont Dance Floor Renovation

Tax deductible
FLOOR IT!

For the past 30 years, Claymont Court in the Shenandoah Valley in West Virginia has been the place for the East Coast Jam .  The heart of our five-day jam retreats is the huge wooden floor in the Great Barn’s Octagon. The raised wooden floor covers more than 2200 square feet and must be replaced.

The Claymont Society for Continuous Education is a non-profit educational organization and community whose mission is to provide education and a place of learning with the aim of raising consciousness. Both the organization and those who hold conferences and retreats at Claymont promote a way of life that is balanced, harmonious, and responsible toward nature. The East Coast Jam has become a regular part of the community, the place and the land.

The upkeep at Claymont is never-ending. Some of the projects are eligible for grants due to Claymont’s inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. The Great Barn, where the floor resides, is not maintained under the terms of historic preservation, so funding to replace the Octagon floor must come from other sources. Thousands of people have used the Octagon for countless hours, and the floor is worn out! Years of patching and using various coverings have prolonged the floor’s viability, but the structure has crossed the point of being safe. A complete rebuild is necessary.

You can help! It’s not exactly a barn-raising but a new base of support within the barn.

WHAT WE NEED:

$15,000 - the first $̸5̸0̸0̸0̸ $6,000 will be matched!

(The matching grant has been increased to $6000!)

You can donate in any amount. Claymont Seminars is a non-profit 501(c)(3) educational organization. That means your donation is tax deductible.

TIMELINE:
Fundraising begins NOW through July 31.

We're aiming for CONSTRUCTION in August. YOU CAN HELP. A work weekend will be organized; ALL HANDS ON DECK. We’ll need those with carpentry skills and vital wood-carrying skills, (the old floor has to be dismantled and removed to clear the way for the new floor.) We’ll also need kitchen crew the feed to floor-builders.

Please donate funds now and consider volunteering your time when the build dates are announced. Now picture years of dancing, moving, meditating and discovery.

Big thanks to Robbie Kinter for the terrific video, Robin Gilmore for the script (used both for the video and as a foundation for this spiel), and Izza for photos!
