Redding Youth Athletic Club

My name is Claudia, I'm a mom, an educator and a Crossfitter. I have worked with at risk kids throughout my educational career and have found that when they can build and be part of a community, when they can relate their struggles together and over come them, they make better choices and strive to be successful.
There are some great examples of groups out there that use Crossfit to help at risk kids build community and get healthy:
http://www.stevesclub.org/about/
and
http://cfvyp.com.au/test
are two great organizations working to help these kids.
I want to bring this to Redding. We have a great city and community, but our kids these days have a lot to overcome: a disjointed educational system, drugs, and homelessness are just a few of the issues that face our youth here at home. I believe that by reaching out to these kids and giving them an opportunity to be part of something that will not only teach them about health, but teach them about perseverence and support.
I have talked with a local Crossfit gym who is willing to mentor my project by providing gym time, and I have spoken with a local youth group about reaching out to Redding's teens.
All I need is the funding to get my Crossfit Level 1 certification and Crossfit Kids certification so I am properly trained to coach our youth. The cost of both certifications plus travel expenses is 3000.
3000 dollars is a lot of money, but donations of any amount are accepted and welcomed! And when it comes to investing in our kids and our community, no amount is too much. Let's help reshape Redding and set its future community members on a path to bring it into its full potential.
