Claudia's Courageous Cancer Fight!

Two weeks ago, we took Claudia to the doctor for a sore knee. We thought we would leave with just a knee brace, but instead, we've found out that our beautiful Claudia has cancer- Osteosarcoma, to be exact. It's a rare bone cancer that strikes teens.In a few short days, Claudia's life, and our lives, have been changed forever. Claudia has named her large tumor "Juan" because he's her "Juan" and only tumor, forever! She's been so brave and strong throughout all of the testing, and she even is able to make jokes about this thing growing in her bone. As he grows larger, she tells him he's "getting fat and to start reducing!" When he is giving her pain, she puts ice on him and she tells him to "chill out!" Today we are even planning to tatoo him with some birds (temporary, of course!) so he can "fly away soon. "

Though she's strong, she's scared and angry! Claudia will have ten weeks of chemo, and then surgery to remove Juan and to reconstuct her leg with an internal prosthetic. After that, seven more months of chemo follow. It's going to be a long, hard year. She won't be able to go to school, and for a vivacious 8th grader, that's a huge issue! Also, the aggressive chemo will make her lose her gorgeous, long, blonde hair and thus we come to the reason for this page!

Claudia has very long hair. Before chemo starts, she will cut her hair short and will donate it to Locks of Love or some other place for cancer patients. We looked into Chemo Cold Caps to help her keep the hair she has, but Claudia has decided she really just wants a wig to keep her lookin' good during treatments!

Human hair wigs in her length can cost $5000 or more! Who knew? This is not a cost we can absorb for our beautiful girl, as much as we wish we could...
