Classical Theatre of Harlem- NEA Revokes $60,000 Grant
Donation protected
My name is Sherry Boone. I am a mom, wife, and a Broadway Actor who is raising funds for Classical Theatre of Harlem. A $60,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, which was approved in January of 2025, has just been taken away by the Trump Administration effective May 31, 2025.
According to the NEA:
"The NEA is updating its grant making policy priorities to focus on projects that reflect the nations' rich artistic heritage and creativity as prioritized by the President. Consequently, we are terminating awards that fall outside these new priorities."
Lead by Producing Artistic Director Ty Jones since 2009, CTH engages with Harlem residents, businesses, schools, and community-based organizations, to directly benefit 30,000 people each year. CTH is the only professional theatre company above 96th Street dedicated to the classical canon, revivals, new works and musicals. In 2024 Classical Theatre of Harlem served over 30,000 live audience members at its free Uptown Shakespeare in the Park performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
No donation is too small or large! My husband and I donated $50.
Actor and Film Producer Ryan Reynolds has donated $15,000.
