Don Clark Fitzgerald passed away Monday, November 7, 2016 in an automobile accident on his way to Standing Rock, North Dakota to help advocate for water protection and indigenous rights. He was 28 years old and lived an incredibly full and joyous life that touched the hearts of many people all over the globe. He was a joyous warrior for a better, truer world and way of living.
Clark was born May 20, 1988 in Evanston, Illinois. He lived in Evanston, New Canaan, CT, Houston, London, Prague, and Los Angeles, but lived most of his life as a passionate New York City resident. He travelled extensively. His mother and he had a running competition for most countries visited - he was winning by running well into the 40s.
Clark made his money as a bicycle messenger, but what he truly was was an activist and a uniter. Clark's life was filled with joy, for his people, for the outdoors, for his many missions. He was he kindest, gentlest, most passionate, most loving, least judgmental, most generous person one would ever meet. He will be deeply missed, but his memory, his laughter, his sly smile and incisive wit will bring us happiness forever.
Clark graduated from St. Luke's and The Dalton School in New York City, and the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts. He was a co-founder of the Woodbine Collective and the Ridgewood Community Garden in Queens, and was wholly devoted to issues ranging from justice and caring for marginalized people, to improving the lives and interactions of communities large and small.
Clark is survived by his parents, Ginny and Jay, and his sister Shea, all of Los Angeles, and grandparents SoRelle and Don Fitzgerald of Oklahoma City, and Linda Skinner and her husband Ellis, of Dallas, and Don Clark and his wife Beverly, also of Dallas. He is also survived by a network of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends the world over who he considered family.
