Claire's Volunteer Trip to Zambia

This year I decided to sponsor a seven year old girl from Zambia, specifically the Chawama Community. This sponsorship provides her with schooling for the next twelve years. Her mom and dad died, so she has to share a bed with her grandmother for comfort. She has not gotten the opportunity to go to school, but she desperately wants that ability in order to better the lives of her family and herself.

Fortunately, I have been blessed with the opportunity to meet her through a week-long service trip. The fee I have to pay will provide ten young girls, most of whom do not attend school, to be able to go to this camp with me.

This sponsorship and Camp Life is through the organization Family Legacy. This camp will be a week of activities and prayers for the girls to gain support from God. Religion is very important in their life, as many of them see God as the only figure in their life they can turn to.

This camp means a lot to me due to my strong views on the importance of girl’s education, especially in third world countries where it is most lacking. I am taking part in the ‘Let Girl’s Learn’ club at Villanova, and I see these non-profit businesses supporting girls education as something I could do in the future as my profession.

The total cost of my trip, including flights, meals, ticket for ten girls to get to attend camp, housing, is $5,100. Sadly, I am a college student and do not have enough to fund the trip myself! I would truly appreciate a donation to aid the funding for my trip, no matter the size of the donation. Every penny helps and would be greatly appreciated!
