Ballroom Dancing for CK 7&8 2018-19

Donation protected
From October through April, the 7th and 8th grade students in La Cumbre’s Core Knowledge program get weekly dance instruction in swing, waltz, foxtrot, meringue, salsa and shimsham – from stylin’ husband-and-wife dance team Derek Curtis and Trudy Olsen-Curtis, who have been teaching kids for decades.

At a time when kids are self-conscious and socially awkward, group dancing gives them incredible confidence as they master the steps together. They learn to think on their feet, to be considerate and conscientious of their partners, to practice both leading and following – and the dances spark lessons in history and culture along the way.

They have a ball showing off their moves for each other at the Winter Formal, and for parents at the Spring Dance Showcase.

These skills have a lifelong impact – and only cost $25/child for six months of instruction! Some families may be able to contribute more, and some less, but we hope that as a group we can reach our goal and get these kids on their feet and dancing this month!

The money raised will be used to pay dance instructors Derrick Curtis & Trudy Curtis. Any excess funds will go towards other CK events and activities.
