Our Aunt Linda is an incredible woman who was unfortunately diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer recently. She had surgery remove a large section of her colon a few weeks ago and will be starting bi-weekly chemo treatments that will cause painful and debilitating side effects. Uncle Brent is also undergoing chemo treatments for an autoimmune disease that he was diagnosed with just over a year ago and has been unable to work ever since.
They live in a rural area of Maine with few resources and little help available. Aunt Linda is now also unable to work and the application for disability payments can take up to 6 months to be approved. In the meantime, she will need to take two trips per month into the city on her own (about 1 hour each way) to obtain the chemo treatments. There are additional expenses related to gas, co-pays and the expenses not covered by insurance, on top of everyday expenses that will become near impossible to cover with no income coming in.
Aunt Linda is a fighter and we want to help relieve her of just a little bit of stress so she can focus on kicking cancer’s butt! She is far too humble to ever ask for help on her own, so we are doing it on her behalf. Kicking this disease should be the only thing she has to worry about. This is the only way that all of us who feel unable to help, can actually do something.
