Willa Bean's Bills

Donation protected
My daughter, Willa, was diagnosed with Juvenile Idiopathic Polyarticular Arthritis a few months before her second birthday. She's almost seven now. Her right knee is noticeably larger than her left, and she has to wear a lift in her left shoe as a result, so that hopefully they can be the same length when she grows up. She sometimes has to stop coloring because holding crayons gets to be too painful after a while. She's also the kindest, most gentle and caring child I have ever known.

Over the years we've tried a number of different treatments, starting with oral medications and diet, then graduating to injections at home. Some worked better than others, but nothing worked well enough and after the last injectable we tried was nicknamed the "fire shot" by her we decided enough was enough and opted to try infusion treatments at the Pediatric wing of Shands Hospital in Gainesville, where we already took her to see her specialist. We've been going there for infusions now for more than 18 months.

Infusions are very expensive so a year ago ago we tried to switch to a home health agency to save money, but the first attempt at that resulted in a bad reaction and a trip to the ER in an ambulance. That, of course led to more bills so we decided the controlled environment and expert staff of the pediatric hospital was best.

All of this racked up thousands in medical bills and credit card debt over the years that we've fought hard to stay ahead of as best we can.  We started this page 6 -7 months ago with the hope of getting a much better insurance plan that would keep our new debt from piling up as fast and the support we have received has made that a reality! The premium is tough to swallow but it will cut our annual expenses for Willa's treatments by 60%.

We are still trying to raise money to pay down the medical and CC bills already accumulated, and that keep accumulating and get them to a much more manageable level so we can offer her the life that a child like her that has been through so much deserves.

Willa really is the sweetest, most kind hearted child I have ever met and I don't just say that because she's my daughter. She has been poked, prodded and gone through so much pain and discomfort as a result of her condition that she has every right to be an angry, jaded child but she's not. That's just not who she is. She has such a big heart and deserves more than what we've been able to give her.

Willa deserves more than trips to Gainesville to be stuck with a needle.  We sincerely appreciate your help and thank you for taking the time to read this.
