Baby Leinah's Fight For Life

Greetings!
Our dear friends Flavia and Daniel welcomed their first child, Leinah into the world on May 29th, 2017. This sweet little girl is clearly on a mission as she was not due until September 25th!
Leinah only weighed 500 grams (about 1 pound) at birth and on day 25 weighed in at 675 grams. You can see from the photo of her little hand clutching Flavias finger just how tiny she is. Considering she was about 4 months premature, the initial tests looked good and Leinah was doing very well. However, over the past few weeks she has been dealing with several challenges, been in very critical condition and is now stable. As long as she continues to be stable, the doctors are planning to perform a procedure to assist her healing and development early next week.
This little girl is a fighter and the doctors and staff have been saying how amazed they are at her strength and resilience. With the expertise of the incredible doctors and staff at the Foothills Hospital here in Calgary, we believe Leinah has a very strong chance of living a healthy, happy life. This will likely be a long journey and Leinah will probably reside at the Foothills for at least several months before she can go home.
Although they are thrilled about the arrival of their precious baby girl, the timing has placed quite a financial burden on Flavia and Daniel. Currently, Flavia is on a medical leave without income until such time as her maternity leave is approved. At that time she will only receive 50% of her income.
The majority of Daniels income is earned from a position that is seasonal. That position and income will cease at the end of June with no guarantee of a position in the fall. The vast reduction in income and added expense of running to the hospital will significantly add to their stress and hamper their ability to generate enough funds to cover all of their living expenses.
Flavia and Daniel are two of the most deserving people I know. They have been constantly assisting new immigrants to get on their feet when they could barely manage themselves. They are incredibly compassionate, giving people.
As this is going to be challenging for Flavia and Daniel for the foreseeable future, I urge you to help us to assist them with a donation and sharing this message with others in your network.
