I love Civil Life for many reasons:
- The concept - Be Civil. Simple, yet sometimes feels so difficult to accomplish in this world. Civil Life was built on the vision to make sure everyone is civil and treated with respect and kindness while drinking a great pint of beer. Genius.
- The beer (or in my case the wine) - I'm definitely a wine drinker (and Civil Life's is one of the best) , but when I want a beer my go to is Angel and the Sword. Civil Life makes amazing, easy drinking beers that all beer drinkers can enjoy.
- Jake - He's just the best. He's built an amazing place for the people of the city of St. Louis to connect, get to know each other and enjoy a pint or two. And he brought us the first ever dinosaur park in the city of St. Louis!
- The food - I always ask myself, "How do they make such great food in a 5'x5' area?" A quick sandwich, great appetizers and the soup...how do they do it?
- The patrons - I have met the most amazing people at Civil Life in my 8 years of being a part (patron and part time bartender) of this great pub. Many of them have become life long friends and with Civil Life I would have never crossed paths with some of them.
And the best part of Civil Life?
The bartenders and staff. Hands down these are the most dedicated, civil and talented group working behind a bar. Many of these individuals have been there since the beginning and continue to serve up pints every week. I've been lucky enough to work with this crew for 7 years on a very part time basis and I can say I know how much each and every one of them cares for Civil Life and the patrons who visit us. They strive to make sure everyone feels welcome and safe. They want to get to know you and take time out to build those relationships. These people are the kindest, hardest working bunch and because of COVID-19 are needing our support more than ever.
Just like other small businesses, Civil Life had to close last week. Without the pub being open, most of the staff had to be let go. They now are trying to support themselves and their families and need our help.
No amount is too small, no amount is too large. Please give what you can. 100% of the proceeds will be split up among the employees at Civil Life who need support. This crew really deserves all the help we can give them!
