CircusAid

Hello, my name is Scarlet Breakspear-Knott:) I am from Bellingham Washington. This spring I will be graduating from Western Washington University with my bachelors in Children's’ Health. I am passionate about the use of various physical modalities as a means for children and adults to increase their mental and physical well-being, using circus arts, theater games, mindfulness and movement. In my experience working with children, I have observed their self confidence and ability to connect with others flourish through intentional movement.

I have an amazing opportunity to travel to Athens, Greece for the month of July to volunteer with CircusAid, which is working to bring holistic circus therapy to refugees. This population is obviously experiencing high levels of stress, grief and loss and I’m really grateful for the opportunity to be part of this team! I have attached a link to the organizations website. If you would like to support my involvement in this project, any contribution is deeply appreciated.

“CircusAid’s programing is grounded in evidence based practices developed through occupational therapy and social circus research. CircusAid projects aim to ameliorate the negative impacts of occupational deprivation on the micro level, providing immediate opportunities for relief from mental anguish. On the macro level, CircusAid’s projects help refugees attain transferable life skills such as social connectedness, perseverance and problem solving that promote mental health and resilience during migration and greater success in new socio-political environments. CircusAid uses circus skills as a tool to promote joy and the acquisition of life skills in a playful environment.” -Jill Maglio (https://www.circusaid.com/about/

All funds raised on this platform will be directly transferred to the CircusAid Fractured Atlas fundraising account (link above.) 100% of proceeds go towards assisting refugees and enabling our project to take place.

CircusAid aims to do the following:

* Work in collaboration with 3-4 different already established refugee support organizations.

* Provide 60+ days of joy and laughter through social circus workshops (3-6 hours/day)

* Serve approximately 40 people per day.

* Serve 3 different age populations (children, teenage male/teenage female, adult male/adult female groups)

* Serve mixed ethnic groups (Afghani, Syrian, Iraqi, Sudanese, Eritrean, Ethiopian)

* Facilitate experiences in: Juggling, clowning, acro-balance, hula hooping, and performance building.

Any donations made to this GoFundMe will go directly to CircusAid on my behalf.

Funds go towards:

*Circus equipment and transportation costs including building of a mobile circus tent.

It is very difficult to construct a permanent structure in a refugee camp. The mobile tent will enable continuity of our services to more people within camps throughout Europe.

*Additional funds would allow us to make our project more long term and serve more refugees throughout Europe.

*Funding service provisions (car rental, accommodation for facilitators and volunteers)

100% of proceeds go towards assisting refugees and enabling our project to take place.

People like you are making this project a reality.

Thank you endlessly for your support.
