Cindy's valiant fight with cancer!

Cindy's story.  Cindy spent most of her adult life as a single mother of three wonderful children; Maria, Nicole and James.  Even with the trials of single parenthood, she did all the right things...built a career in banking, didn't smoke or do drugs, devoted her life to her children and was always more willing to give to others than herself. She volunteered to local community services to teach basic banking skills to the poor and under priviliged.  We met and got married 16 years ago, and I have tried hard to give to her some of the things she never gave herself, like the occassional vacation to places like our Nations Capital.  Life is not always kind.  Her birthday present last year was to be diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer.  It was a shock but we managed, and once again she did all the right things.  Chemo, Surgery, Radiation, testing and follow-up for 7 months.  Finally in July, she was in remission with no cancer markers.  We had dealt with it, using all of our resources.  She continued to follow-up and be tested along the way.  In April this year she began to have pain in her chest and sides, then there was shortness of breath.  Finally by May she was in resperatory distress and had to be taken to the Emergency Room.  With no tests indicating cancer, she was diagnosed with Pneumonia.  There was fluid in her chest so they decided to do a VATS (Vidio Assisted Thorasic Surgery) and drain her.  A litre of fluid was drained, and tube left in to continue draining.  When the surgical team met with us, we were devistated by the news that they had found cancer in the lung lining, and in the chest cavity.  A few days later she was released but on June 5th was brough back to the ER to have the other side drained (another litre) with the same result.  Stage 4 Metastatic Triple Negative Breast Cancer.  There was doubt that she would make it through the weekend, but we have an amazing team of specialists! And although there were problems early on with her kidneys and liver, she has battled back, started more chemo and has been scheduled for a clinical trial by her oncologist. (Google search President Jimmy Carters Cancer Treatment).  Unfortunatly the battle with Cancer comes with a steep price! The damage to her lungs may be preminant, and she will need oxygen for the forseeable future.  The house will have to be revonated to accomidate her mobility (Walker, Wheelchair, scooter).  A stair chair will have to be installed.  A walk in bathtub, etc...and the list seems endless.  Each item costing thousands of dollars.  Soon her disibility coverage will end and she will lose 40% of her income, and I have been on unpaid leave for the last three weeks to keep her motivated and to co-ordinate her care.  Although Cindy has spent her life giving to others, she would never ask for a dime.  She hates being a bother.  But we both believe in the power of Random Acts of Kindness.  Dontations, both small and large now, will pay for the renovations to the house that are needed for her to recover and be mobile ($10,000).  They will help pay for the medical bills that insurance did not cover ($5000), and the temporary loss of income to pay the normal bills ($5000).  Just the Pleurex bottles needed to drain her ever three days are $100 dolarrs each, and she needs one per side every three days. That is 20 bottles a month! Even with what out insurance coveres, it is an additional $400 per month!  If the clinical trial works, she has been told she can beat this.  Her only desire is to be able to get back to helping others.  Help Cindy now and don't let the next page of her life be the last!  Thanks and Bless you all for reading!
