Cindy Olson Yelk Ceres Scholarship

Cindy Olson Yelk Ceres Continuing Education Scholarship

The University of Wisconsin- Platteville Ceres Chapter was founded on April 15th 1989 with commitment to building leadership, fellowship and scholastic achievement in women with an appreciation for agriculture. Ceres places emphasis on scholastic excellence.  It is intended that the environment of Ceres will provide a home base for the scholar as she enters college seeking knowledge and the capacity to use that knowledge in a professional field. To further encourage the development of scholastic achievement, UW-Platteville Ceres Association has extended many scholarships over the last 30 years to UW-Platteville female students.

Cindy (Olson) Yelk was a founding member of the UW-Platteville Ceres Chapter. In her untimely passing in November 2017, her Ceres Sisters reminisced of their interactions with her while chapter members. Cindy is fondly remembered for her strong work ethic, determination and vibrant spirit.  As a New Member Educator, Cindy instilled in her pupils the strong foundation that Ceres originated and emphasized the need for fellowship and sisterhood. As these characteristics embody many of the qualities required of a Ceres woman, the UW-Platteville Ceres Association renamed the Continuing Education Scholarship in Cindy’s honor at the 2018 Founders Day Meeting.

The Cindy Olson Yelk Ceres Continuing Education Scholarship is awarded by the UW-Platteville Ceres Association to a member or members of the UW-Platteville Ceres Chapter at Ag Banquet on a yearly basis. In order to qualify for the scholarship, members must be in good standing with the Chapter, not have previously won the award and must fill out an application listing her leadership and philanthropic achievements.

To help raise funds to ensure the success of the scholarship for years to come, Doug Yelk has kindly offered to match any money raised in this campaign up to $5000.
