If you look at Cici's right eye (on the left in the picture) you'll see that there's a bump in the inner corner of her eyelid.
You might look at it and say "that's not so bad..." Well, that's what we thought.
Our surgeon has told us that the bump we can see is only a small fraction of the cysts in that region. As much as three times more is extending deeper into the region between her eye and her nose.
Left to themselves the cysts will continue to grow, eventually affecting Cici's vision and of course her appearance.
The position of the cysts makes them very difficult to get to. The doctors can't go through a small incision in her eyelid -- there's just too many cysts, and no guarantee that approach would reach them all. And nobody wants to go in by the space between her eyes -- that would leave her horribly scarred. So there's one other option...
It's really emotional for us to think, talk, write about this. Did you ever see the movie FaceOff? That's... not too far from what the doctors have to do. Less dramatic, less extensive... but that's the basic idea.
The initial surgery we had planned on -- the small incision on her eyelid -- was within our financial reach. Barely. But this is beyond our current resources. So we're putting this out there, hoping that we will find gracious and generous hearts to help us take care of our baby.
We are scheduled for surgery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma for May 2, 2018. Your kind donation will help us to pay for the surgery, recovery, and the surrounding expenses. Thank you for your gracious financial support!
For those of you who only know us from a distance, please know that we are a family of faith. We trust that there is a God in heaven, that Jesus is his Son, that "with his stripes we are healed," and that we will see the fulfillment of that promise. Perhaps not immediately, but certainly when Jesus returns to transform our weak bodies to be like his.
We look forward to that day, and we praise God for the echoes of eternity that he gives by healing people all the time. We're trusting that he will do the same for Cici. And so, whether or not you can make a financial contribution, we are genuinely appreciative of your prayers on our behalf.
