Medical Volunteer Trip, Peru

Donation protected

Hi everyone,

Thank you for visiting this page! I hope you'll read about this opportunity and support me in any way possible. Please know that if a donation is not feasible at this time, I appreciate every prayer and positive thought you can give.

For those of you who aren't aware, I just finished my first year towards earning my doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Washington's School of Medicine through the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. Serving others through physical therapy has been a lifelong dream of mine, and I have been presented with an opportunity for my dream to meet the world's need.

On July 30th, I received an email saying that a small group (myself, 3 friends from the PT program, and a licensed PT) had the green light to go to Peru this September and serve children in need of physical therapy. 24 hours later, we bought our tickets and vowed to fundraise in any way possible to make this trip a reality.

Our plan is to fly into Cusco, leaving August 31st to serve at a school, an orphanage, and a couple of indigenous villages. Manos Unidas is graciously connecting with us and helping to organize this volunteer trip. This school is the first and only non-profit special education school in Cusco that dedicates itself to preparing children with disabilities for a successful future (http://www.manosunidasperu.net/). This is where the need for physical therapy comes in, and where I hope to help as much as possible.

If there is any way that you can help make this trip a reality, please help me. I can give you my address to send supplies or donations if you don't feel comfortable doing it online. The goal that I currently have takes care of airfare, housing, food, a donation to the school, an organizational fee, and a 2 day, 1 night trip to Macchu Picchu. Anything beyond this goal will be used as a donation to the school; they are sending us a list of their medical supply needs and we hope to fill as much of that as possible.

UPDATE 9/30/14

I am finalizing packing right now and my flight leaves in less than 11 hours for Peru. I wanted to post the blog link on here for anyone who is interested in reading about the journey. :)
